We Put Customers First

History

Established in 1957, Production Tool Companies provides machining and light fabrication and assembly services on large, heavy workpieces for a variety of customers. Products include repair and reconditioned machinery components as well as original equipment manufacturer components. Customers of Production Tool Companies include steel and metal processors, power generation equipment manufacturers and other suppliers or users of heavy industrial machinery and equipment such as used in the mining and crushing industries.

Facility
At our 80,000 square foot facility located in Chicago, Production Tool Companies currently employs thirty co-workers in its operations. Major machine tools include both conventional and CNC horizontal boring mills, vertical boring mills, planer mills and engine lathes. Various manual and automatic welding processes are used and our stress relieve facilities include a car bottom and pit-type furnaces.

Typical workpieces can be 20 feet in length, 12 feet in diameter and weigh 30,000 pounds, but our equipment is capable of sizes much larger. In general these products are manufactured to close tolerances that require workmanship performed to exacting specifications. Consequently, to better serve our customers by ensuring that our product complies with the specified quality requirements and to better implement an internal program of continuous organization improvement, Production Tool Companies has established a Quality System to better serve our customers.

Quality
The Production Tool Companies Quality System utilizes a three-tiered approach to ensure conformance of product with specified quality requirements and to ensure internal organizational compliance with the documented quality requirements.

Tier One requirements are documented in the Quality Assurance Manual and consist of the policies, responsibilities and activities that have been established in PTC Quality System. Tier Two requirements are presented in the Operational Procedures Manual and consist of specific information concerning the standard operating procedures used to implement and maintain PTC Quality System. Tier Three requirements of the Quality System include work instructions (specific instructions detailing product manufacturing processes) and quality records (documentation of verification of product quality requirements and documentation of activities to maintain compliance with quality system requirements).

The Quality Assurance Manual (Tier One) is issued as either a controlled copy or uncontrolled copy. The Quality Assurance Manual is available to PTC customers as an uncontrolled copy per request. The Operational Procedures Manual (Tier Two) is issued as a controlled copy and is intended for the internal use by PTC personnel only.
